The Pakistan Council of Research in Water Resources (PCRWR) has declared 12 mineral water brands operating in the country to be unsafe for human consumption. The monitoring report of The PCRWR stated:
One hundred and eight samples of mineral water brands were gathered from Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Sialkot, and Tando Jam for testing.
According to reports, the samples were tested against 24 water quality parameters, which concluded that Pakistan’s 12 mineral water brands are unsafe. These 12 brands do not meet standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA), and the Pakistan Standards and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA).
Which 12 mineral water brands are declared unsafe for drinking by the PCRWR?
- MM Pure
- Blue Spring
- Aqua Best
- Blue Plus
- Alpha 7 star
- YK Pure
- Leven Star
- Dista Water
Exceedingly high quantities of sodium, causing hypertension in public, were found in Ziran, MM Pure, Blue Spring, Aqua Best, Blue Plus, Alpha 7 star, YK Pure, Leven Star, and Hibba. MM Pure and Blue Spring also contained high proportions of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), resulting in cholera, diarrhea, dysentery, hepatitis, and typhoid.
A pH level of less than 6.5 was observed in Chenab, while Dista Water and DJOUR contained bacteriological constituents. These constituents were higher than the safe and acceptable limit (0/100 ml), making the water microbiologically unsafe.
All these factors combined to make PCRWR declare the 12 mineral water brands unsafe for drinking. For more information on the matter and further details about the brands tested, you can check out PCRWR’s detailed report.
